The subsidies of governments for economic affairs increased between 2019 and 2020 by 145,5 billion euros in the European Union[1]. This is an increase of 87,6 percent and makes an average of 325 euros per EU-Citizen for the Covid19 subsidies for companies.

While the average increase in the European Union is 325 Euro per capita the range between European countries is very high. At the top is Austria with 1.475 euros per inhabitant for subsidies, followed by the Netherlands with 1.233 euros. Thus, funding for economic affairs in Austria increased by 13 billion euros between 2019 and 2020, and in the Netherlands by 21 billion euros.

In 2020 Austria and the Netherlands overtook Switzerland, Luxembourg, Norway, France and Belgium, which previously had the highest funding for economic affairs.

In total the subsidies for Economic Affairs of General Government (COFOG GF04/D3) increased from 2019 to 2020 in the EU from 166 billion euros to 311,4 billion euros.
