Das Kurzpaper „Kommunale Sportinfrastruktur nachhaltig finanzieren & betreiben“ (Mai 2025) wurde vom KDZ im Auftrag des Österreichischen Städtebundes erstellt. Es analysiert die Aufgaben, Finanzierung und Konsolidierungsmöglichkeiten im kommunalen Sportbereich. Die Studie zeigt, dass Städte und Gemeinden wesentliche Träger des Breitensports sind, jedoch mit steigenden Zuschussbedarfen und hohem Sanierungsaufwand konfrontiert werden. Zwischen 2014 und 2023 stiegen die kommunalen Nettoausgaben im Sport um fast 50 %.
