The ninth meeting of the European Cities for Sustainable Public Finances (CSPF) focused on the pressing challenges of affordable housing and tackling homelessness in Europe. Member cities Amsterdam (NL), Barcelona (ES), Bordeaux (FR), Hamburg (DE), the City of London Corporation (UK) and Trondheim (NO) exchanged views with experts on innovative approaches to making housing in urban areas affordable and inclusive.
Vienna as a role model:
Veronika Iwanowski (Wiener Wohnen) presented the Viennese model of public and social housing as an example of social stability.
European perspective:
Anna Iafisco from Eurocities showed how the new EU Commission can facilitate access to finance and markets for cities.
Successful approaches from cities:
Maria João Rodrigues presented how Porto is meeting the challenge of balancing the demand for owner-occupied and rented housing. This takes into account both the growing permanent population and temporary residents.
Nathalie Bouchain highlighted how Bordeaux is creating high-quality living spaces through inter-municipal and state cooperation. The focus is on the well-being of residents and the provision of high quality services.
Chris Pelham presented London's innovative approach to homelessness. Through multi-stakeholder partnerships, the City of London Corporation is pooling resources and expertise to tackle homelessness effectively.
Øyvind Karlsen presented Trondheim's socially inclusive housing policy. These aim to avoid disrupting the housing market while providing support. This includes housing allowances, tax incentives and low-interest municipal loans for those in need.
Special thanks to all participants and external speakers for their active participation.
